Trümmelbach Fälle

Even before you reach the high Alps, there are other natural wonders to explore, such as Lauterbrunner Falls, a series of about a dozen exterior and interior cave waterfalls that are fed by the Jungfrau range--breathtaking and the only accessible series of such falls in the world.

A walk from the bus stop takes you to the elevator, which only takes you so far. Then you climb to the numbered falls, following, but not too closely, the person or family ahead of you. I hiked ahead, on damp stones, and didn't realize until much later that Jan had fallen. No one helped him. Hmm. Some of the falls are parts of one enornous flue that cascades around rocks deep into caves. Others are stand-alone falls. Very wet, but very exciting. We bound our wounds and treated ourselves to lunch at the cafe before hopping the bus to the station and back to Interlaken. Another very scenic day.
